AT&T has released the official android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Moto X (2nd Gen) XT1097 which is currently going through a soak test. The new software build is 23.16.2 and sized in at around 507MB in size. AT&T says that you will need a WiFi connection in order to grab it. This new update comes with a lots of usability changes, bug fixes and improved and new features. The update is being supplied as OTA in the US and it has starting hitting the Moto X 2015 devices.

  • Heads-up Notifications : In addition to dismissing a heads-up notification, you can now swipe it up to remove it from your screen. It will remain in your notifications tray and you can dismiss it later.
  • Quick Settings : You can quickly select different Wi-Fi access points or different paired Bluetooth devices with a new pull-down menu on each tile. Conditional settings tiles that only show if you use the feature - like “Invert Colors” or “Hotspot” - can now be hidden via a long-press on the tile.
  • Chop Twice for Flashlight : Moto Actions let you turn the flashlight on or off with two chopping motions - without waking or unlocking your phone.
  • Device Protection : Lost or stolen devices will remain locked until you sign in with your Google account, even if reset to factory settings. Note that you must have a Google account on the device to automatically enable this feature and set a PIN, password or pattern screen lock.



  • Before You Begin

    • Make sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi network.
    • The phone's battery should be charged to at least 50% or above.

    If you have received the OTA notification on your Moto X (2nd Gen).

    • Select "Yes, I’m in".
    • After the software is downloaded, select "Install now".
    • After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.
    • Your phone is now updated with 23.16.2.

    If you have not received the OTA notification, follow the steps below to manually update your AT&T Moto X (2nd Gen) To Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

    • Select the Settings icon in the apps menu.
    • Select "About phone".
    • Select "System updates".
    • Select "Yes, I’m in". After the software is downloaded, select "Install now"
    • After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.
    • Your phone is now updated to 23.16.2.
